      I think so too Susie, and thanks for taking a look at the poinsettias. I always say I’m not going to buy any, but this year I have a pink, red and white set around the house. They aren’t expensive, and they add such a great burst of color. The ones in my photographs were taken in the Longwood Gardens Conservatory a few years ago. I don’t know if I’ll get there this year, but I can enjoy photographs of past year that I have on file.

    I think Christina’s quote covered Christmas better than did Mr Graham’s The death and sacrifice part is at the heart of Easter surely?

    Christmas is the time to celebrate the Birth of the Saviour, a time of Joy and Hope for all mankind, in a world that so desperately could do with some good and happy news to counter all the bad we are being bombarded with 24/365 – and for the re-birth in Spirit.

    Or at least that was what i believe was the ‘original’ message, which seems largely lost to most of the world as commercialism becomes the Religion of the West’s masses.

      I do agree…the Billy Graham quote is fitting for Easter also. Lately, at least in my opinion, even more than commercialism seems to be communication/technology as the Religion of a good portion of the world. And that communication is beginning to have as many rules and false doctrine as most of the world’s denominations and sects have brought into the world in the name of Christ Jesus.

Fully agree with you, but with the recognition that the proliferation of tech communication is fundamentally a way to increase commercial economic benefit of major companies: to sell us more and more stuff while giving us the impression we are ‘in control’ exactly as we give all control over to others.

        Big Brother is not only ‘watching’ He’s building up databases on everything we do and selling it to the highest bidders. 😦
        ( Little bidders (businesses) try to do a similar thing as it is the only way they can try to ‘compete’. )

        I believe the ONLY way to truly follow God/Jesus is to do as he said and did as is written in our scriptures. Following someone else’s interpretation of that can only lead to divisions and factions and fractures of faith.

        Of course that requires total faith in the scriptures as we have come to know them being ‘interpretted’ and assembled fully and correctly since Christ Himself is not reported to have written anything down under his own name.

          I agree, but the databases are not taking into account the really smart people who might be leading them astray. The Bible needs to be studied and just as important is applying what you’ve learned when you get that internal nudge of the Holy Spirit.

            The thing about data analysis by machines is that they are better than us at detecting (and compensating for) anomalies.

            Human ego and our long held belief we ‘know best’ is our most dangerous feature.
            In a very great number of cases computer intelligence understands our human behaviour (both as individuals and as groups) better than we do ourselves.

There are so many scary thoughts concerning AI, not the least of which is how little most of us are discussing the directions it is being taken in, or how fast it is moving, or what controls are being put in place, or how little we really understand of it and how dramatically it will alter our futures. 😦

It took 3 hundred years for Da Vinci’s helicopter to become real. it took 70 years for Jule’s Verne’s Man on the Moon to become real, It took only 30 years for Arthur C Clarke’s Global Positioning Satellite network to become real. Driverless cars are already on the Road. Fact can’t keep up with fiction anymore – Today’s fiction is becoming today’s fact. If not now, it may soon be, that we can no longer tell what is fiction and what is fact as far as technology is concerned.

        And most of the human race goes on doing little to stop the madness and falling ever further behind where technology is ‘leading’ us. 😦
        Myself included.

          Is this the beginning of the Great Deception. I am so often amazed by what have turned out to be warnings in old movies. Things like Logan’s Run that once seemed like far out fantasies could become reality.

          1. Not so sure it’s right at the beginning… i think we may be further down that road?

            I wrote a piece some time back ( maybe only a year?) in which i said ‘Sorry’ to all fans of Sci-Fi because there is very likely not going to be a likelyhood of any future lifetime other than the current generations in which humans will have any serious part to play.

            Machines will be the only life-form of any interest past 2100 or so, they would do all space exploration, invention, art, writing (had they need of any other than binary code) and if we survived we would be playing a somewhat comparable role to that which dogs or cats do in our world.

            And with regards to ‘Terminator’ the time travel back in time would not have been necessary to kill John Connor. Machines would have simply poisoned their water supply and or oxygen supply in their future and eliminated any human threat that way. Machines don’t breath or drink water.

            But that would not have allowed for 3 sequels! 😉

            Not wishing to become overly pessimistic (too late??) but I think Logan’s Run might be considered a Very Optimistic vision by the 2020’s

              Optimism is the only option or we will lose the drive to try and make things better. I’ve also jokingly said to my husband recently, ‘I wonder if we are already eating Soylent Green?” But in all seriousness it’s a horrifying sarcasm that hopefully is not, and will never, become reality.

Knowing how ‘well’ the human race has handled past technologic change ( which is relatively minor on the scale of change we are looking at today – something unparalleled in History is happening already, and knowing the ‘speed’ of politicians to act where large amounts of money are involved i’m finding optimism to be a difficult virtue to keep i’m afraid.

                I’d settle for making my Peace and seeing what opportunities may arise for some kind of pause on ‘progress’ while we try to catch our collective breaths.
