Quotes & Prayer – Prayer is the Greater Work/Quotes of Oswald Chambers

“Prayer does not equip us for greater works— prayer is the greater work” The Key of the Greater Work: Oswald Chambers

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” ~Ephesians 6:12

  1. Kathy,
As a child, I was taught not to believe in ghosts and demons( devils) and all things kids were afraid of- even witches, spirits or things we couldn’t see. Angels, no one was really sure of but we adjusted thinking that they must be there but we just don’t see them.
Now that I am nearly 50 and with almost 15 years of experience living and working in a very difficult place, I have come to believe that evil is real and there is a parallel world out there that has these sort of movements. I don’t believe I will call up a demon or someone who has died ( a spirit) through an Ouija board but it really seems sometimes as though there are forces beyond our control that try to make things wrong for us or stand between us and God.
My father told me recently about an event he read about around the last few days or months of the second world war. Britain was in grave danger. IT was close to the European territory where the great war was going on. It was a hard time- war time rationing, being careful, unknown futures and people being lost at war, wartime widowhood, fathers or lovers or fiances not coming back from war or coming back changed. IT was a hard time to believe in a God or a God that let such things happen. And one day, Winston Churchill, prayed- prayed as he had never done before and the whole nation with him to protect his country from the great evil. Something happened, something stirred in the other realm, the other world so to say, and the voices and supplications of many people joined his heartfelt supplication until the great danger that hovered around Great Britain moved away and the country was saved from a massive death threat.
What a miracle, what movement of things that can only happen when we pray. Prayer is an armour that we put on ourselves to protect against the other worldly forces that force us to think evil or give in to feelings of revenge, hate, everything negative. Thank you for sharing these thoughts. I know you think deeply about these and I read a lot between the lines of the thoughts you share.
God bless you on his holy day, my dear friend and sister in Christ.
    Susie

I agree with you Susie, evil is everywhere. What is most frightening to me now is what is out and out morally and spiritually wrong, according to the Bible, being condoned by so many. I am tired of people not speaking out about what is wrong in society because they say they want to be kind and loving. This always rubs me wrong. I believe I am kind, but that should never extend to not speaking out about what is wrong because that kind of kindness causes spiritual blight and moral decay. Susie, thank you for relating the story about Winston Churchill. I am horrified by some of the things that are going on in our country right now, infanticide, no borders, no respect for high office, insanity being put in place as law in the name of climate change which to me is a nothing but untruth…climate changes all the time…always has…nothing we can do will stop it. It is in God’s control. These quotes and verse are for me to follow. I’m glad they spoke to your heart. I must remind myself that what is most important for me and all Christians is my personal communion through prayer with God. I praise Him more, sing more, and I pray more, but my prayer has changed. I sometimes pray like a camp-meeting preacher and that is good…and then I sometimes pray quiet, everywhere, and about everything, and that is even better. I find singing becomes prayer for me so often. I’ve been singing more. Susie, I love our friendship…love knowing that on the other side of the world is a good friend. Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Kathy

  2. Thanks for sharing the insightful quotes! There is a spiritual warfare going on that we can’t see. Have you noticed that when you feel pumped up for God, start praying more, and feel closer to God, lots of things go awry?! But God is so good that he doesn’t care how feeble my prayers are. And even when I don’t know what to say…the Holy Spirit knows. Awesome!!

Yes. I have noticed that also, and have heard other Christians say the same. It is a good sign you are on the right track in your prayers. Yes. The Holy Spirit knows and prays with us. That is something that always thrills my heart. Thank you for your insight and for your wise comment.
