Praise – Take the Name

Sun Blossoms,
Sun Blossoms

The message of a good gospel hymn is timeless. Technology is a great thing, but along with all the gadgets that accompany us everywhere, we need to remember to keep the ‘Name of Jesus’ with us at all times. This hymn by Lydia O. Baxter was written in 1874. I’ve included a video of the hymn sung by one of my favorite groups…The Chuck Wagon Gang.

“Take the Name of Jesus with you,
Child of sorrow and of woe,
It will joy and comfort give you;
Take it then, where’er you go.

Chorus:
Precious Name, O how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of heav’n.
Precious Name, O how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of heav’n.

Take the Name of Jesus ever,
As a shield from every snare;
If temptations round you gather,
Breathe that holy Name in prayer.

O the precious Name of Jesus!
How it thrills our souls with joy,
When His loving arms receive us,
And His songs our tongues employ!

At the Name of Jesus bowing,
Falling prostrate at His feet,
King of kings in heaven we’ll crown Him,
When our journey is complete.”

“For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.”

People & Praise – Christafari

I love Reggae music. This year I found a Christian Reggae group by the name of Christafari. I purchased their “Greatest Hits” CD from Amazon and absolutely love it.

“Christafari is more than a group of musical trailblazers. They consider themselves “Musicianaries” – using their unique blend of traditional roots and contemporary dancehall reggae to proclaim an uncompromising message of hope and salvation to this lost generation.” ~ Christafari

Praise, Poetry & Phlowers – Daffodils Part I

“So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, Like the spring rain watering the earth.” ~ Hosea 6:3

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.” ~ Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.”
~ William Wordsworth, I Wander’d Lonely as a Cloud

“Symbolizing rebirth and new beginnings, the daffodil is virtually synonymous with spring. Though their botanic name is narcissus, daffodils are sometimes called jonquils, and in England, because of their long association with Lent, they’re known as the ‘Lent Lily.'” ~ Teleflora

Photograph & Praise – Didn’t It Rain?

Winter rain brought me a blessing this week; I glanced out my window and was immediately entranced by the huge drops of water clinging to the bare branches of a nearby tree. Summer foiliage would have obscured this view. In the pared down beauty of the winter landscape I was able to glimpse hundreds of earthbound diamonds glimmering like stars in the rainy mist.

Raining Pearls

“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

~ Old Irish Blessing

I love this song by the Dove Brothers, a classic Southern Gospel quartet. This tune and rhythm will make you want to jump up, sing and dance.

Praise – Sing, Sing, and Sing It Again!

“O Lord our God, the majesty and glory of your name fills all the earth and overflows the heavens. You have taught the little children to praise you perfectly. May their example shame and silence your enemies!” ~ Psalm 8:1-2

“Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!” ~ Psalm 147:2 (NIV)

This post so exactly fit the Serenity challenge for this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge, I was compelled to edit and enter it also.

I have been singing more. My daily to-do list has a smiley face with a big O in place of the smile, a reminder to me to sing, sing, sing.

I don’t want to let one day go by without singing praises to God. In the past year I have been reading a Psalm a day. They are filled with verses about music and song. In these days of ever-quickening changes the songs I sing give each day stability and remembrance of the awesome and mighty nature of the Lord God.

If I am anxious or troubled, I sing, and the load seems lighter. When Jesus and his disciples finished his last supper here on earth they sang songs of praise together. (Hallel Psalms) Even knowing what lay ahead for him, Jesus praised the Father. In all I do I want to lift a song of praise to his name every day.

“When they had sung a hymn they went out to the Mount of Olives.” Matthew 26:30 (NIV)

Praise – Great is the Lord

worthyjpg

“I will exalt you, my God the King;

I will praise your name for ever and ever.

Every day I will praise you

and extol your name for ever and ever.”

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;

his greatness no one can fathom.

Psalms 145:1-3 (NIV)

Psalm & Praise – U2’s “40” (lyrics) – A Song of Thanksgiving

A BLESSED THANKSGIVING DAY TO YOU.

“I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the LORD.”

Psalm 40:1-3

“And yet, along comes this idea called Grace to upend all that “as you reap, so will you sow” stuff. Grace defies reason and logic. Love interrupts, if you like, the consequences of your actions, which in my case is very good news indeed, because I’ve done a lot of stupid stuff.I’m holding out for Grace. I’m holding out that Jesus took my sins onto the Cross, because I know who I am, and I hope I don’t have to depend on my own religiosity.” ~ Bono

Praise & Pleasures – Singing Stones

singing stones

“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12

I love the sounds of nature. On this Sabbath Day I am remembering the joyful singing of the rocks on Block Island, Rhode Island. The pound of the surf across the sand is followed by the gentler roar of the waves receding. The stones seem to sing as the water flows back into the sea. I might be inland, but in my heart I am hearing the briny symphony of those New England waters.

Try to take some time today to hear the clapping of the trees, the singing of the rocks, the chirping of the birds. Take a walk and listen to the Lord’s gentle symphony. A blessed Sabbath to you.

Prompt & Praise – Sisters singing “It is Well”

Daily Prompt – Moved to Tears

“Do movies, songs, or other forms of artistic expression easily make you cry? Tell us about a recent tear-jerking experience!”

Yes, singing, especially old hymns in acapella, can move me to tears. My own singing often is interrupted by a flow of emotion as I sing the words that lift up my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The Bible is FILLED with verses that describe singing as a way to praise the Lord.

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! ~ Psalm 95:1

Praise – Matthew 10:29

This sweet little vignette composed itself in my side garden. God provided the sunlight and flowers, my mother bought me the statue years ago. All I had to do was take the photograph, add the perfect verse and publish as today’s post. Please feel free to copy and use on Social Media, Desktops, Wallpaper, or as a reference for painting. Please “share” the message of God’s love. Have a Blessed Sabbath Day!

Praise – The Sparrow

The Sparrow

During a week of snowfall, I ventured out to empty the trash into its receptacle, and immediately upon opening the porch door, heard the sweet singing of a sparrow. He sang even though food is scarce, the wind is fiercely cold, and there is more stormy trouble on the horizon. He sang because that is what he was created to do. So let it be with me Lord Jesus…whatever my circumstance put a song of praise within me.

I love so many of the words of Charles Haddon Spurgeon. Here’s a little bit of his wisdom: “We are on the way to Glory, so let us sing as we journey there and, as the lark, ascending up to Heaven’s gate sings as she soars, her wings keeping time with her music and mounting in her song as she rises through the air, so let it be with us— every day a Psalm, every night a day’s march nearer Home, a little nearer to Heaven’s music and a little better imitation of it! Let us sing, now, in our hearts if not with our lips, and when the time comes, let us join our lips with our hearts and sing to the Lord! That is our text, “Sing to the Lord, O you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.”

Praise & Phlowers – Daffodils/Tell the Good News

Psalm 145:1-7 (The Living Bible)

I will praise you, my God and King,
And bless your name each day and forever.
Great is Jehovah! Greatly praise him!
His greatness is beyond discovery!
Let each generation tell its children
What glorious things he does.
I will meditate about your glory,
Splendor, majesty and miracles.
Your awe-inspiring deeds
Shall be on every tongue;
I will proclaim your greatness.
Everyone will tell about how good you are,
And sing about your righteousness.
