Phlowers – Late to the Show/Flower of the Day

On the coldest day of the year my Christmas Amaryllis is finally in full bloom. She’s late to the show, but sometimes a glamorous entrance is better than being on time. In these cold days of mid-winter, the blossom is a welcome addition to the house.

This post is part of Cee’s Flower of the Day.

You’re right Susie…It might be in the lily family. I will have to look it up. It grows from a bulb that is dried up and shriveled in appearance when it is planted…then the miracle of green leaves and flowers.

Oh Janie, that is horrifying. I went out this morning and the bank clock and temperature said 11 degrees. That is downright warm compared to your temperatures.

      1. Heat wave, Kathy (11 degrees) !! Believe last night we dropped down to -55. My big issue, I live in a brick apt building built in the 1940’s – it has NO insulation. Even the interior walls are cold to the touch. I am wearing multiple layers of clothing – from my head to my feet. ☹️

I get a lot of cold air near my windows too Janie. We let the heat go down to 62 through the day and so the upstairs is nearer 59. I would have multiple layers on too. We are going up to the 50’s this weekend on Sunday. This is the craziest winter ever.
