Who would believe this gorgeous deluge of pink florets is atop the humble herb Oregano? I have quite a few Oregano plants in the front of my herb garden border. Not only flavorful, this member of the mint family is a healing herb. Oregano is a wonderful herb to use for its preventative/medicinal qualities. As with most foods and herbs, organically grown Oregano is the best choice.

Oregano florets draw pollinators by the dozens. Today, along with the honeybee, I also spotted wasps, bumblebees, cabbage white butterflies, hoverflies and sweat bees on the blossoms.
The Oregano blossoms are my entry into Cee’s Flower of the Day.
Sounds like the most wonderful border plant and your garden is buzzing with life

I run outside at intervals through the day to take a look at what’s buzzing and feeding.

and side note – my rose of Sharons are only now starting to really bloom – I think they usually thrive in July – but was wondering if I delayed their blooms because I cut them back twice in later spring (they were getting too large)

I also cut mine back once. The plant is beautiful. I’ll have to see if it has any big buds yet.

Just checked this morning. I saw buds, but they are still small. It will be spectacular when they burst into bloom. The color is so pretty. I’ll have to keep watch that bugs don’t begin to feast on them before they have a chance to blossom.

so glad – and I will be in touch later about getting it to you – but I was with my mother and it was fun to think of a bogging friend while we were out and about

Thanks Cee, I’m really enjoying all the pollinators they draw.

I don’t have blooming oregano, but there is a pink hollyhock in our garden. I’m going to be satisfied with that while imagining your pollinators swarming about

My husband says when he was a child he didn’t like the hollyhocks planted on the side of their house…there were always a lot of bees swarming around in them. I would be outside with my camera all day if they were planted here. I love pink…they sound lovely.

I have fond memories of hollyhocks. My grandmother always planted them beside their mailbox.

They are defnitely an old-fashioned cottage garden flower.

Oh, I didn’t know that oregano bear flowers too.

Aren’t they beautiful. And…I forgot to mention they have long stems, and last several days as a floral flower in vases.
