Phun – Orange You Glad???

It’s Friday, and I’m so glad the snow has stopped falling! Here are a few reminders of warmth for the Photo Challenge at WordPress:

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Orange you glad it’s photo challenge time?”

“What’s not to love about orange? It’s vibrant. It’s cheerful. It makes a statement. It’s the perfect punctuation for a punchy photo. This week, share a group of photos where orange is either the dominant color, or provides a bold highlight. Shoot for at least three photos, and look for different shades — bright neons, deep rusts, delicate peaches.”

Here are a few more of my “orangey” photographs to warm up a winter day.

Preparedness – Sleeping Warm

When my husband and I camp in the late autumn or winter it is usually near or at freezing at some point through the night. Dressing right for sleeping is important if we want to get a good night’s rest.

Our area recently went through Hurricane Sandy. Many areas were without electricity for weeks, the nighttime temperatures were very cold. I remember hearing a woman on a newscast state she could not get warm enough to sleep at night.

Whether you are camping or in an emergency situation, it is good to know the proper steps to take to sleep warm. Be prepared.

Through Scoutmaster.com I found some good tips:

1. Go to Bed Warm
2. Fuel Up
3. Drink Water
4. Wear the Proper Clothing
5. Use Hot Water Bottles
6. Wear a Hat
7. Keep your nose and mouth outside blankets or sleeping bag
8. Keep off the ground
9. Wear socks
10. Shake up your sleeping bag to redistribute insulation.

To read more fully developed directions on each of the ten points above go to: How to Sleep Warm

I printed out the tips to put into my preparedness notebook.

Product – Survival Hammock

On a recent camping trip my nephew brought along a survival hammock. This lightweight, full sized hammock fits inside a small bag and easily opens up into a strong and durable, weatherproof hammock. We were amused at how prepared he was for any problems he might encounter. All within reach were his flip-flops, a hatchet, and a fly swatter. He was prepared for any emergency.

These hammocks are quite expensive, but for the serious camper and hiker, worth the expense.

Pleasures – Scamping

This is the Scamp. We love our Scamp. It is one of our pleasures to camp several times a year. Our favorite spots are: Belleplain State Forest in NJ, Frontier Campground near Ocean City, NJ, Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware  (only a few miles from Rehobeth Beach) and Elk Neck Campground in Maryland.
