I recently read about “Golden Milk.” The thought of warm, golden goodness bringing about an uplift in mood and good health instantly made me happy, a sure sign I needed to try the idea. Warm milk is soothing, turmeric full of antioxidants and all manner of good things that fight or prevent everything from cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, etc., etc., etc. Plain and simple…turmeric is good stuff! Honey, I could write paragraph after paragraph on how I love honey, but I want to keep this brief.
I looked up Golden Milk or as it is sometimes called, Golden Tea and found dozens, if not thousands, of recipes and articles, it’s one of those topics with almost too much information to sort through. My way to create Golden Milk is easy: 1 cup of warmed milk, a teaspoon or two of honey, and 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric. Stir several times to incorporate the turmeric. Ah, it’s delicious…but oh dear, it’s so soothing it makes me want to nap.
I’ve also included a duckling planter in the photo because the expression on the duck’s face always makes me smile. It has a number on the bottom and appears to be a vintage piece.
Sounds like a good way to get tumeric, (which is a good spice) I wonder if you taste the tumeric or does the honey mask the flavour?

I can tell it’s turmeric when I get near the bottom, but it’s not too strong using the small amount. I don’t think I would make it stronger.

I like to make this for Bob. I use almond milk and add a dash of nutmeg.

I did read that using different milks is an option. Your recipe sounds delicious.

He is, isn’t he? I enjoy whimsical items out at Easter, and I love ducks, so it’s double love.

It’s an easy one. It sounds a bit odd, but it really does taste good and is very satisfying.

Do you use fresh turmeric?

I never have…I use the prepared spice in a jar. I will have to try and find the fresh and try that too. Fresh is always best!

We have plenty in the markets here and they are so cheap.

I will have to keep my eyes open for it in the produce section of the grocery store.

Ironically I just finished a warm cup of Golden Milk myself. Different recipe and used the blender for a good blending before heating. Next time I will try your recipe. I use coconut milk and add a little pepper and cinnamon as well. Delicious and yes I am ready for a little cat nap now. Enjoy!!

Thanks so much…I think at some point I will definitely try it with the coconut milk since I have some in my fridge right now. The blender is a good idea. I always have a little residue in the bottom of the cup. A blender is probably the solution.

I enjoyed this read!
Growing up in a family and community of East Indian descendants, tumeric has been the magical spice for numerous things . From its therapeutic properties to its organoleptic characteristics, it has never failed us. Try using it when you begin your menstrual cycle. It not only helps with the pain but also cleansing of the blood quicker so you can actually enjoy lighter or shorter periods!
PS I have never heard it referred to as the “Golden Milk” before. It’s a perfect title.

Good advice…I’m 60, so past the need for tumeric in that way. Wish I had known about it a few decades ago. Thanks for stopping by and the comment.
