I love bleeding heart bushes and their blossoms. The heart-shaped droplets truly do resemble hearts. These beautiful florets are my choice for Cee’s Flower of the Day.

From just a few rhizomes my grape iris have multiplied over the years into several large patches of deep purple bloom. These are also a Springtime favorite of mine. The fragrance they emit is outstanding.

Grape hyacinths are blooming in shades of periwinkle along the borders of several gardens.

The Johnny-Jump-Ups that overwintered are filling the hanging baskets and blooming over the edges. They are gorgeous.
All beautiful flowers! Are the Johnny-Jump-ups pansies? They look like them. I absolutely adore photos I have seen of Bleeding Heart vines, and I would have one in my garden – if only I could find one to buy! They seem to be rather scarce in Australia, although they apparently should do well in my climate.

My bleeding heart was planted years ago. I think I bought it in a box, and there was not much to it at first. It has been a joy over the years. It comes up in Spring, blooms, but then the foliage dies back leaving a bare spot. I usually plant something that likes high heat, such as coleus, near to where it grows so that when it dies back the coleus will fill in.

Oh yes, forgot to add, the johnny-jump-ups are in the same family as the pansy, much smaller though, and a bit tougher. They are great at self-seeding too.

I, too, love Bleeding Hearts, and Cupcake and I have two in the backyard, but damn, those things are hard to control.

Mine is well behaved, but then, there is concrete on two sides…perhaps that keeps the wanderings under control. I read some of your blog, I’ll be going back when I have a bit more time to read further. I love the way you write, and I enjoyed your take on getting older. Yes, I could still pull a 40 lb bag of top soil out of my trunk, but I might regret it for weeks. I’ve learned to not pick up heavy things, or run down the stairs too fast, or jump on concrete. Still…life is fun. Thanks for the comment.

I am glad you like my blog so far, but fair warning, I usually try to stay clear of politics, but it can be difficult. In those instances where I voice my Political Opinion, I lean right.

I lean in the ‘right’ direction too. I am horrified by the attitudes that are shaping the path humanity is taking at this time.

As am I. Glad I am old and getting close to my home going. I would hate to be in my 20’s right now.

I truly worry, sometimes to the point of grieving, for the world my children and grandchildren will be living in.
