Praise & People – Across the World in Song #1

I am always inspired and uplifted by groups from all around the world who are dedicated to praising God in song. What terrific examples of people all across the world who are serving God. A good reminder that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. Here are a few new songs I’ve recently come across.

You Are My Hiding Place – Golden Angels – South Korea

Wa Hamba Nathi (Siyabonga Jesu) – South Africa

How Great is Our God/Gadol Elohai – Israel/Joshua Aaron/Messianic Praise and Worship
Israeli musician Yaron Yerahmiel Cherniak on the Persian Tar.

United in Christ’s Love all around the world. Hallelujah! What a Savior.

People and Quote – Martin Luther

“God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on the trees…

…and clouds and stars.” ~ Martin Luther

Person & Quote – Peter Marshall

Peter Marshall Quote

“Peter Marshall (May 27, 1902 – January 26, 1949[1]) was a Scots-American preacher, pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC and twice appointed as Chaplain of the United States Senate.”

People & Praise – Christafari

I love Reggae music. This year I found a Christian Reggae group by the name of Christafari. I purchased their “Greatest Hits” CD from Amazon and absolutely love it.

“Christafari is more than a group of musical trailblazers. They consider themselves “Musicianaries” – using their unique blend of traditional roots and contemporary dancehall reggae to proclaim an uncompromising message of hope and salvation to this lost generation.” ~ Christafari

People, Plant & Quotes – St. Patrick

“Christ beside me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ within me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me.”
~ St. Patrick

White Wood Sorrel
White Wood Sorrel

“If I have any worth, it is to live my life for God so as to teach these peoples; even though some of them still look down on me.” ~ St. Patrick

I am quite fond of my Wood Sorrel Oxalis/Shamrock plant. I purchased it last Spring as a “Proven Winner.” I planted the oxalis in a medium-sized pot and grew it beneath the shady branches of a crab apple tree. The dappled sunlight it received allowed the plant to thrive. In the Autumn, I brought the oxalis into the house and placed it in a shady basement window. The plant thrived all winter with minimal attention. In a few weeks I will place it outside beneath the crab apple tree once more. A terrific plant, but might not be easy to find. It is available online.

“This is a sweet plant with lots of delicate small white flowers. Its leaves resemble shamrocks so it is a perfect St. Patrick’s Day gift. It will grow happily in a window of your home in a cold climate, as did my first plants. It also grew happily outside in my garden in the Caribbean isle of Montserrat. That’s not bad for flexibility which automatically makes it one of my favorites.” ~Green Garden Online Plant Source

Prose & People – A Woman’s Prayers to God

My Letters to God by S. Corrine Davis
My Letters to God by S. Corrine Davis

“My letters to God came about by my need to communicate with him on a regular basis. I need—as a Christian, a wife, and a mother notwithstanding—to pray every day.”

This beautiful book is filled with words from the author’s heart to God. Corrine Davis is a Pastor’s Wife, a mother of five, a grandmother, a wonderful cook, an amazing seamstress, a pianist; she can take anything old and make it look new again. She is an inspiration to many, and I am proud to call her my Aunt.

Here are a few quotes from, “My Letters to God.”

“Lord, I see that so many are struggling with the ‘daily stuff’ of life. And, it’s really so true for everyone. That little stuff—the nitty, gritty junk we all deal with—is sometimes what can make us or break us. All the time we are looking at the ‘big’ stuff that threatens to hit us and take us out, when in reality, I find that the junk drawer that refuses to shut is often what can wreck my relationship with you.”

“My desire is to be like Jesus. To do this, I will reevaluate my goals, my dreams, my hopes, therein finding the sweet will of God. Hold me close, Lord. Please don’t let me slip out of your grip.”

People & Place – Mark Hirsch and “That Tree,” An Update

In January of 2014 I wrote a post on Mark Hirsch and “That Tree.” Imagine my delight and surprise yesterday when the subject of my post, Mark Hirsch, commented on the post. He gave me a few updates about his project.

“I am tickled that your sister shared my project with you. Thank you for sharing it on your blog. My book That Tree was published in October of 2013 and can be found at independent book sellers throughout the midwest. It is also available through my website at “THAT TREE” Shop.
I am still finding time to document and experience life in and around my magical bur oak tree. You can see and follow my ongoing posts at That Tree on Facebook.

Here is the original post and video:

My sister recently sent me a terrific link. I had mentioned to her that I was photographing a pathway into a nearby woods once a week. *** I thought it would be fun to post it in a blog page (The link to “The Path” can be found in the top left sidebar of this blog) I love the link she sent me in return of “That Tree,” the oak that Mark Hirsch photographed with a smart phone for 365 days in 2012.

*** I photographed my “pathway” for several weeks, and then due to a vacation and bad weather let the project end. This has re-inspired me, perhaps in April, when this terrible winter weather clears up a bit, I can once again find a path or special spot to photograph weekly. Why don’t you give it a try too?

People – Happy Birthday Mr. Washington

“Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge my heart by Thy Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of Thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in Thy fear, and dying in Thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of Thee and Thy son, Jesus Christ.” ~ George Washington, Prayer

People & Prompt – Mother Teresa

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Think Global, Act Local.”

“Think global, act local.” Write a post connecting a global issue to a personal one.”

One of the books I’m reading for my morning devotionals is a volume of wisdom by Mother Teresa. When I read today’s Daily Prompt, I immediately thought of her. If anyone personifies acting locally and reaching the whole world, it would be this tiny, but spiritually strong lady. Though her life on this earth has ended, her wisdom and witness live on.

“We need to give Christ a chance to make use of us, to be His word and His work, to share His food and His clothing in the world today. If we do not radiate the light of Christ around us, the sense of darkness that prevails in the world will increase.”“Mother Teresa/No Greater Love.”

People & Quotes – Happy Birthday Mr. Lincoln

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. ~ Abraham Lincoln”

Abraham Lincoln

“And in the end it is not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.”

“I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day.”

People & Praise – Sister Groups

One of the benefits of my “Song of the Day” on the blog sidebar has been finding new and exciting music to listen to each day. Recently, I’ve found several groups of sisters who excel at singing. They also have websites to explore. Take a listen and a look at the sites of these three terrific sister groups.

THE PAROUSIA SISTERS – “He Leadeth Me”

People – HCPT / The Pilgrimage Trust

“Lourdes has been a place for pilgrimage since 1858. Today over five million people per year visit the town. HCPT founder Dr Michael Strode first visited in 1951 and saw the potential to organise a pilgrimage for disabled children at the school where he was working.

HCPT itself was founded in 1956 and now helps 1,000 disabled and disadvantaged children and young people visit every Easter, and hundreds of disabled and disadvantaged people of all ages to enjoy a week at Hosanna House near the town each Summer.”

Yesterday I posted a video of “Rise and Shine” being sung by those taking part in an HCPT Pilgrimage to Lourdes. Prior to finding this video I had never heard of this wonderful charity. The group in the video is based in the UK. You can find out more at HCPT Vision and Mission of HCPT.

People & Pleasure – Cellist David Abramsky

A week or two ago, while searching Youtube for music videos to embed as my “Song of the Day”, by luck, or perhaps better said, “By God’s Blessing,” I came across this lovely piece of music by David Abramsky.

I love the sound of the cello, and this song, and the images in the video, capture a sense of reverence that uplifts my spirit. Even better, in searching out a little more about this musician, I came upon his testimony: David Abramsky’s Testimony. Please take a moment to read this account of how Mr. Abramsky turned to Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

David Abramsky’s music is available on CD Baby and Amazon.com.

***Just an added note…I purchased the CD, “Clothed in Glory,”  and I am thrilled with the music. “Be Thou My Vision” is one of the songs on the CD.

People & Perspective – Johnny Cash & Ingenuity

Ingenuity – the quality of being clever, original, and inventive.

I was searching for songs to fill the “Song of the Day” category on my sidebar, and in my pursuit of the perfect melodies and lyrics came upon one of my all-time favorite singers, Johnny Cash. I love his music. Johnny Cash is one of, if not the most, distinctive voices of my lifetime. I had never heard the bit of “history” he shared in this video concerning the song, “I Walk the Line.” I had to share it in this blog post.

“History lesson young folks, 1955, we started out with just the two musicians, a bass and guitar…I liked the sound of a snare drum, so…I didn’t have a snare drum, so I put the paper in the strings and got my own.” ~ Johnny Cash

It’s a good reminder to me to do whatever it takes to reach my dreams, even if that means using a piece of paper as a snare drum.

People – Old Photos

Jimmy Davis

I love old photographs. My father is the sweet little boy on the left. He is pictured here with his two cousins. Happy Birthday Dad! I love you.

People & Prompt – The August Blues and Mary Engelbriet

The Daily Prompt for August 27th was this question:

“August Blues/As a kid, were you happy or anxious about going back to school? Now that you’re older, how has your attitude toward the end of the summer evolved?”

IMG_3032

I was usually very happy about going back to school. One of my favorite shopping experiences as a child was going to a store with my parents and picking out a new notebook, pencil bag, pens, crayons…all the wonderful supplies that had the potential to help make me a star student. Well, I don’t think I was ever the star pupil, in fact I know so, but I still had a good time imagining myself as such! 🙂 The school supplies were the perfect prop to propel me to what I hoped was great success.

IMG_3046

I still love collecting supplies and props that will help me succeed. One of my favorite “school” supplies are notebooks of all kinds. They are a tool to prevent me from forgetting an important date, and keep me on track with menus, entertaining, vacation plans, etc. I also include Bible verses and other inspiring thoughts within the pages of my notebooks.

IMG_3033

One of my favorite artist/illustrator/decorators is Mary Engelbreit. I have two of her books. loved her magazine, and still use old pages of her calendars to create the collages that decorate the covers of my “to-do” notebooks.

home companion

I put anything and everything in these books of mine, but when their “season” is over, I am glad to replace them with new blank pages. They aren’t created as a keepsake, they are a tool to keep me moving onward and looking up.

My notebook pages always have a section for jotting down new blogging ideas too! 🙂
